Lung cancer pathways are nationally standardised patient journeys designed to determine effective and accurate treatment options for individuals suspected of having lung cancer. The pathways involve medical procedures, interdisciplinary meetings and consultations between patients and medical professionals. The goal is to ensure a streamlined diagnostic process and deliver good, trusted clinical results. The existing pathway is generally effective, but there are significant opportunities to enhance patient experience, streamline workflows and foster better interdisciplinary collaboration.
Through a participatory design process, a new standardised model, now renamed Quick Pathway Lung, was developed in close collaboration with clinical specialists, administrative staff, and patients.
The result is a scalable and replicable pathway, with the intention of making the journey easier to understand for both patients and staff, reducing stress and confusion at key stages, improving the flow of communication across departments, and supporting more consistent coordination throughout the diagnostic process. The result also includes tangible materials aimed to support the patients at key stages in the process.
