“And finally it dawns on me, finally I see it: They are mad, they are whipped by their own shadow. And I look around, I look at their eyes, their expressions, their rushing and running: Yes, they are mad, they are mad.”

From “The City” by Sigbjørn Obstfelder. Free translation

“Those who sleep do not sin” is an interactive experience about Lilleby, a small town slowly but surely losing its autonomy. The large, mysterious "Party" from the capital suddenly begins to take up more and more space in the little town. Will the inhabitants realize what's happening before it's too late?

To uncover the story in the town, you can pick up a lantern — or rather, a head belonging to one of the town’s residents. With it, you can explore Lilleby at night. Your head can talk to other heads you encounter along the way, and you can enter the houses around the town square to see what they’re hiding. Perhaps there's something strange about the flickering street lamps too? The night in the town casts the shadows of what happened during the day. Visitors themselves take the lead role in the story through the talking heads.

“Those who sleep do not sin” draws a parallel to Norwegians’ naivety regarding our relationship with the EU. In June 2024, the far-right had a sweeping victory in the European Parliament elections. Almost no Norwegian newspapers covered it. 90% of what is passed in the EU will become law in Norway. Is it a democratic problem that most Norwegians are unaware that such a large portion of Norwegian policy is decided by a body elected in an election we have no voting rights in?
