Our society is complex, and so are the services within it. While tools like service blueprints help designers map this complexity, they often fall short in capturing the nuances of services shaped by human relationships, emotions, and lived experiences. Other tools such as Gigamaps can visualize entire systems, but the sheer amount of information can become overwhelming and hard to grasp.
In our master’s thesis, we explored how to make complexity more approachable through tangible objects, by turning abstract, intangible systems into something you can literally hold, write on, and move around. We developed a service model based on a house metaphor, which we call Huset som tjenestemodell (The House as a Service Model). It is designed to help people from different backgrounds collaborate, reflect, and share perspectives in complex service contexts.
By turning the abstract into something concrete, the model invites users to co-create meaning, uncover hidden structures, and develop a shared understanding of the service system.
Make yourself feel like home :)
